Abstract This article aims to enlarge the interfaces between the city and the theater, which are not limited to the drama or to the use of the urban space as set design. For such, three events of different natures were analyzed - the show of dance Bolero (1989), presented outdoors in the Aterro do Flamengo; the adaptation of In the Jungle of the Cities (1969), focusing the city of São Paulo, by the Grupo Oficina, with set design by Lina Bo Bardi; and the "teatralization" of the city of Verona starting from the shakespearean classic Romeo and Juliet - with base in concepts of Pavis (1990), Boyer (1998) and Argan (1998). The result of the analyses proves that the nature of the cities is the same as that of theater, a symbolic nature that happens as the encounter of collectivities occurs, which is not limited to the materiality of the city. The relationship between city and theater is also not restricted to the moment of the theatrical event, spreading in time and being dialectically rebuilt.
