Neste artigo procuramos trazer os principais pontos da teoria de Leonard Meyer, descrita em seu livro A Emoção e o Significado em Música (1957), fazer comparações com estudos posteriores e confrontar a teoria de Meyer com o texto de Robert Miller no artigo Affective Response In: Colwell, R. Handbook of research on music teaching and learning. 1992. O autor identifica problemas na teoria de Meyer. Concordamos com a avaliação Miller e, referenciados nos processos psicológicos estudados por Freud, podemos supor a importância da relação estabelecida entre música e ouvinte, e considerar o investimento deste último como determinante nessa relação. Este mundo emocional que se lança irresistivelmente em relação com a música, que produz intenso prazer corporal e que permite sentirmo-nos tão humanos.

Abstract
In this article we tried to bring up the main points of the theory of Leonard Meyer, described in his book The Emotion and Meaning in Music (1957), make comparisons with later studies and compare the theory of Meyer with the paper of Robert Miller’s Article Affective Response In: Colwell, R. Handbook of research on music teaching and learning. 1992. The author identifies problems in the theory. We agree with the Miller’s assessment and referenced in the psychological processes studied by Freud, we believe the importance of the relationship between music and listener, and consider the investment in this latter aspect as determinant in this relationship. The emotional world that is irresistibly launches itself in connection with the music, produces intense body pleasure and allows us to feel so humans.
